2018 Fall Meeting

The Department of Physics hosts the FL-AAPT 2018 Fall Meeting, held in the New Physics Building in Gainesville, FL. Activities will include talks and workshops for K-12 and higher ed faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students. The meeting begins with a social meet up on October 19th beginning at 6:30pm, and concludes with a Demo Share-A-Thon on Saturday ending at 3:45pm. Details coming soon!

Parking

Parking is conveniently available in either the parking garage or the large surface lot located directly across Gale Lemerand Drive from the physics building. No permit is needed to park in these locations, beginning at 3:30 on Friday and continuing throughout the weekend. Google Maps.

Registration

Register for the conference here, beginning August 24th. There are two options for registration:

  • Registration including annual dues and lunch $30
    (lunch includes a selection of sandwiches, side salads, selection of chips, Shawn’s B&B pickle spears, dessert)
  • Registration, including annual dues only $20
    (bring your own sack lunch, campus options are limited on weekends)

Be a Presenter

Lead a workshop, share a classroom strategy, or talk about your research – we are offering a variety of presentation formats. University students, researchers, and K-12 and higher ed faculty, and others are encouraged to submit. Fill out this present form. Abstract submission will close September 30th.

IOLab Workshop

Bob DeSerio and Shawn Weatherford will be offering an IOLab workshop introducing participants to the IOLab cart. Participants will take data with the device and discuss how it could be used in the classroom. The workshop is open to everyone, however the first 15 participants who sign up and are K-12 or State College faculty will receive a free IOLab after completing the workshop to take back to their classrooms, thanks to funds provided by the AAPT Bauder Fund.

Food

Coffee and morning snacks are provided. We’ll break for lunch, which may be included with your registration if you choose, or you may bring a sack lunch.
